Daylight Saving Time - Posted February 2007
Effective 2007, the United States is changing their Daylight Saving Time (DST) observance to start on the second Sunday of March and ending the first Sunday in November. In 2007, DST will start March 11 and end November 4.
The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) stores rules about DST observance. Older JRE's have outdated DST rules and may report the incorrect time during March 11 - April 2 and during October 29 - November 4.
Core Technology server and standalone client installs bundle a JRE. As of February 2007 we will include a newer JRE in our install packages that support the new DST change.
If you run an applet or Java web start (JNLP) Core Technology client (e.g. Talon or CTCBridge), you will need to install the latest JRE on each PC that may be running the applet or JNLP. You can download and install the latest version from Sun's Java website: http://www.java.com.
For more information about the Java Runtime Environment and the DST changes, please see the following article: http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/Intl/USDST/
If you would like more information about how this issue affects your Core Technology software or if you would like the install with the newer version, please contact our support department at 800-338-2117 (517-627-1521) or support@ctc-core.com.
Sun Java Plug-in Warning - Posted November 2004
It has come to our attention that a security warning has been issued from the Sun website for users of the Java plug-in. It has been reported that users with the Java plug-in could get a virus if it is not updated to the 1.4.2_06 (or later) release. The good news is that we do not currently know of any existing viruses that exploit this flaw. But, this does mean there won’t be one in the near future. Since our Java products use the Sun JRE and because the JRE is included as part of our software installations, you may be using the Sun JRE 1.4.2_05 or earlier. If so, we strongly recommend that you update your version of Java immediately. Please see if the information and links provided below.
Affected Runtimes: SDK and JRE 1.4.2_05 and earlier, all 1.4.1 and 1.4.0 releases, and 1.3.1_12 and earlier.
Java's Solution - JRE 1.4.2 Patch Instructions:
- Go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
- Locate and click the "Download J2SE JRE" link.
- Follow the instructions to download and install the update.
JRE 5.0 Patch Instructions:
Note: JRE 5.0 does not contain the flaw, but Core Technology does not recommend moving to this version at this time.
- Go to: http://www.java.com
- Click the "Get It Now" button.
- Follow the instructions to download and install the update.
